What is a conveyor pulley?

A conveyor pulley is a mechanical device similar to a conveyor roller, used to change the direction of the belt in a conveyor system, drive the belt, or apply tension to the belt.

Classification of conveyor pulley

Head pulley :  The head pulley is installed at the discharge point and is driven by a motor and reducer. Widely used in industries such as ore, metallurgy, and chemical engineering.

Drive pulley：The belt conveyor drive pulley is installed at the discharge point and is a device used to drive the conveyor belt. Conveyor drum pulleys, wing pulleys, and spiral pulleys are the most common types of drive pulleys.

Motorized pulley：The motorized pulley is composed of sealed and protected metal rollers inside and outside the motor, which are not affected by harmful substances such as grease, dust, water, etc. It is mainly used to drive the belt operation.

Tail pulley:  The tail pulley is mainly used to redirect the conveyor belt back to the drive pulley and change the direction of the conveyor belt. Usually located at the end of the conveyor machine. The tail pulley of a conveyor is commonly used to tighten the pulley to maintain tension on the belt.

Take up pulley:  The main purpose of Take up pulley is to adjust the looseness of the conveyor belt to ensure a certain tension and avoid belt slipping.

Precautions for conveyor operation

• Before using the conveyor, check whether the operating parts, belt buckles and bearing devices are normal and whether the protective equipment is complete. The tension of the tape must be adjusted to an appropriate degree before starting.
• The belt conveyor shall be started without load. The material can be fed only after the operation is normal. It is forbidden to feed before driving. When several conveyors are running in series, they should start from the discharge end in sequence. Only after all of them are in normal operation can they be fed.
• No pedestrians or passengers are allowed on the conveyor belt.
• Stop feeding before stopping the machine, and stop the machine only after all the materials stored on the belt are unloaded.
• It is forbidden to pull the belt by hand when the belt slips, so as to avoid accidents.
